NGOs And Advocacy
There is a wide variety of non-governmental organisations mostly working in service provision. Most of these NGOs are organised in the Coordination Body of Development NGOs (CONGDE). There are also coordinating bodies at the regional level. CONGDE promotes a code of conduct for NGOs. A recent report outlines the work of the NGOs and provides statistical background.
Some NGOs, think tanks and non-profit organisations have entered into the advocacy for better aid, amongst these are:
- Oxfam Intermón (IO). IO publishes annually the Reality of Aid, which monitors the quantity and quality of the Spanish Aid system and, each year, addresses a particular topic. For 2006 it looked at the relation towards Africa. IO has a research branch on trade and poverty. Lately the lead researcher presented findings of the Hong Kong WTO conference in the development commission in congress.
- Asociación de PROFESIONALES por la CALIDAD de la Cooperación al Desarrollo (Association of Professionals for the promotion of quality in development cooperation, ACADE) – is an organisation of development professionals with various backgrounds, whom are concerned about the quality of aid.
- Plataform 2015 y más (Platform 2015, and more), is a consortium of critical NGOs working to promote the Millennium Development Goals MDGs ‘and more’.
- Fundación Lealtad (Loyalty Foundation) focuses on the quality of the third sector, offering a mechanism of quality certification for larger NGOs.
- Fundacion Alternativas (Alternatives Foundation) has recently established a department of development.
- +enRed is a consortium of NGOs working for better coordination.
- The Observatory for Debts within Globalisation – Debtwatch focuses on critically following the Spanish and International Debt management.
... and many others.
